Victorian Tourmaline & Diamond Witches Heart Brooch without stones A collection of 205 intaglio/cameoDATE: Victorian, c. 1890 Charming late Victorian witches heart studded with rose cut diamonds and set with a central heart shaped greet tourmaline. The witches heart (aka witch's heart) was a popular motif throughout the Georgian and early Victorian eras. A curved point at the bottom implied that the giver had become "bewitched" to fall in love with the recipient in ancient times the heart was allegedly used to ward off witches and other evil spirits.
