Its leaves are very thin, short, and taper to a sharp point. They are crowded at the base and often wavy or curling at maturity. When it blooms, it has spreading bell shaped seeds that are purplish, drying to a wheat color. Its seeds are distributed along a spike above the leaves. It thrives in open sunny areas with good drainage.
