Taken during the Kentucky Derby, a race first run during the tracks inaugural race meet on May 17th, 1875, and run continuously since its debut. A new grandstand was completed in 1895 that was complimented by Twin Spires atop the roof. The Twin Spires would become the symbol of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby. A 7 8 mile turf
