Inside is a removable tool tray that lifts up and out of the way when open. I've owned this since ~1960 and it's in solid condition and has years of good life ahead. Heavy duty, plated locking hardware with a solid steel core zinc covered top handle. The full width hinge is protected from damage with a shield that also prevented the top opening past 90 deg.
