First issued in 1943, the N 1 field shoe was designed for sailors and Marines who required dependable footwear capable of handling rough terrain, humidity, and long deployments. The nickname Boondocker stems from the Tagalog word bundok, meaning mountain or remote terrain, a term adopted by American servicemen
