It is found in freshwater and saltwater marshes, swamps and coastal hammocks. It thrives in moist to wet soil with full sun. Sweetscent is moderately salt tolerant but not dorught tolerant. Sweetscent is a short lived perennial that blooms summer to fall. The flowers are attractive to pollinators.
