Richard Worley Pirate Flag Irish Remnants of that flag stillRichard Worley was not know for daring exploits and was active less than 2 years. However, Worley left us with an undying legacy The Jolly Roger. He and his crew adopted the skull and crossbones as their ensign sometime in 1718. The name Jolly Roger is thought to have come from joli rouge, or pretty red, a wry French description of the bloody banner flown by early privateers. It is double stitched around all edges with 4 rows of stitching on the "fly"
