There is a separate panel at the waistline and the skirt is relatively slim fitting over the top of the hips and flares toward the hem with an inverted pleat front and back

1940s Face Framer Hat 1950_sweater It's very hard to spot1940s black hat with raspberry trim headband. This style reminds me of a hat that Gene Tierney wore in "Laura". It has a cap that hugs the back of the head and then twe flaps that frame the face. It's essentially a variation of the popular "beau catcher" style that was popular at the time, just minus with a variation to the brim.
